ED investigating Delhi excise policy case

On Wednesday, March 8th, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) in connection with the Delhi excise policy case (now-scrapped).

Kavitha is an MLC (member of the legislative council) of Telangana from the Bharat Rashtra Samity (BRS), earlier known as Telangana Rashtra Samity (TRS).

The ED asked Kavitha to join the investigation on Friday, March 10th. The agency alleged that Kavitha is part of the so-called ‘South Group’.

Kavitha took to Twitter and responded strongly to the summon as well as the allegation of the ED.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alongside the ED alleged that the now defunct Delhi excise policy was tweaked in exchange for kickbacks from the so-called ‘South Group’. The agencies also alleged that the modification of the Delhi excise policy was carried out in order to give undue advantages to the group.

Earlier, the CBI arrested the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former deputy chief minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. He was remanded in 14-day judicial custody till March 20th, by the order of a CBI court.
