The Bihar Police on Saturday, March 18th, tweeted that they had arrested a YouTuber, Manish Kashyap, as the main accused for making videos of the purported torture of migrant workers in Tamil Nadu.
The Bihar Police filed an FIR against Kashyap on Monday, March 13th, accusing him of making and circulating fake videos of the torture of Bihari migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. After absconding for one week, Kashyap surrendered at the Jagdishpur police station on Saturday.
Apart from accusing Kashyap of making fake videos of migrant workers in Tamil Nadu, the Economic Offense Unit (EOU) seized his bank account for alleged financial irregularities. The EOU has reportedly seized a total of Rs 4.2m from his bank account. A team of Tamil Nadu Police had reportedly left for Bihar to interrogate Kashyap.
Earlier, the Tamil Nadu Police nabbed a man from Jharkhand for making fake videos of the torture of the Bihari migrant workers in Tamil Nadu.
Notably, in the first week of March, some videos of the purported torture of Bihari migrant workers in Tamil Nadu started circulating. As a result, the panic was stirred among the migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. To allay the apprehension of the migrant workers, the Tamil Nadu Police made outreach to them.
Besides, they initiated a joint investigation with the Bihar Police to find the route of those purported videos. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also met the migrant workers and reassured them of their safety in the state. The police investigation eventually revealed that the alleged torture videos were fake.
