Irked by former head coach Ravi Shastri’s remarks on the Indian cricket team’s recent performance, skipper Rohit Sharma gave a sharp retort terming the comments as “rubbish” and “coming from an outsider”.
“Honestly when you win two games and people on the outside feel that we are overconfident, it’s absolutely rubbish because you want to do your best in all four games,” is how Sharma was quoted in media reports. Sharma was attending a press conference ahead of the fourth test as well as the series decider, which is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad from March 9th.
Shastri, during commentary in the third test, held in Indore, made a critical remark about the disastrous performance of India. India lost the test to Australia by nine wickets. During the match, Shastri took a jibe at the Indian team and said that the team was a little complacent after winning two test matches in Nagpur and Delhi.
He also added that the shots played by the Indian batsmen in the first innings of the Indore test were the result of the teamās overconfidence.
Sharma, while asked about the remark made by the former Indian teamās head coach, criticized the remark and talked in favour of his team.
Acknowledging the fact that Shastri is familiar with the mindset of the cricketers in the dressing room, Sharma ascertained that the Indian cricket players always want to be āruthlessā against the touring opposition and refuse to āgive an inchā to them.
